A very popular neighbourhood for families with young children is Allenby. Allenby Public School with its excellent reputation is one of the reasons why families are drawn to the area. The school also boasts a successful French Immersion program for students in grades one through six.
North of Eglington Ave West, west of Avenue Rd, and south of Briar Hill Ave you will find Allenby, a quaint Toronto neighbourhood.
As deep as the hill Allenby’s Public School sits on, is its rich neighbourhood history! This once was the home of The Huron Tribe, from the 1400s until the early 1700s. The hill was actually built by the Huron as part of their practice of concealing stockpiles of food underground.
Allenby is also known for an artesian spring which flowed not so ironically from where its modern counterpart stands just west of Avenue Road on Roselawn Ave.
Neighbourhood charm and character? Absolutely!
