In the late 1800’s The Queensway first began as a small farming community. At 694 Royal York Road remnants of this community’s past can still be seen in the little white stucco cottage. Urbanization of the Queensway in 1912 facilitated the creation of the two-room school, the Queensway Public School. After an extended period of growth the school was expanded twice in 1923 and 1948. However in 1960 The Queensway experienced a decline in population, which led to the closing of Queensway Public School in 1969. The former Queensway Public School was demolished in the 1990’s to accommodate the gigantic Costco, which has become a landmark of the community and helped revitalize business.
