Ontario Summer Getaways

Summer in Ontario is truly something special. Whether you're dreaming of soft sand between your toes, sipping local wine with a view, or finding family-friendly adventures just a few hours from the city—there's a perfect getaway waiting for you. As local real estate professionals, we know how important lifestyle is when choosing where to live (or invest). That’s why we’ve rounded up our favourite summer destinations across Ontario to inspire your next road trip, weekend getaway, or even future cottage dreams. 🌞

1. Prince Edward County: Wine, Water & Charm

📍2.5–3 hours from Toronto
If you’re into wineries, farm-to-table food, and boutique stays, PEC is a must. Relax on Sandbanks Provincial Park’siconic dunes, bike the Millennium Trail, or hop between vineyards in Bloomfield and Wellington. It’s also a rising spot for those looking to own a second property or an income-generating vacation rental.

Real Estate Tip: Short-term rentals are booming here—perfect for investors who love the idea of sipping wine between guest turnovers.

2. Grand Bend: Lake Huron’s Summer Playground

📍2.5 hours from Toronto
With one of the best sunsets in the world (according to National Geographic!), Grand Bend is a gem on Lake Huron. Enjoy beach days, jet skiing, local art galleries, and patio dining along the main strip. It’s also a hotspot for families and retirees looking to downsize near the water.

Real Estate Tip: Check out properties in nearby Lambton Shores for a quieter feel and more affordable price tags.

3. Tobermory: The Caribbean of Canada

📍4 hours from Toronto
Crystal-clear waters, shipwreck snorkelling, and the stunning Grotto at Bruce Peninsula National Park make Tobermory an adventurer's paradise. Hike the Bruce Trail, take a glass-bottom boat to Flowerpot Island, and immerse yourself in nature.

Pro Tip: Book accommodations and park permits well in advance—this place fills up fast!

4. Niagara-on-the-Lake: Romance Meets Relaxation

📍1.5 hours from Toronto
This historic town is perfect for couples and culture seekers. Enjoy wine tasting at Peller Estates, see a play at the Shaw Festival, and stroll through picturesque streets lined with heritage homes and gardens.

Real Estate Tip: Niagara is popular with GTA retirees and offers investment potential for bed-and-breakfast-style living.

5. Muskoka: Ontario’s Classic Cottage Country

📍2–3 hours from Toronto
If you crave classic cottage vibes, Muskoka is calling. Think: canoe rides, s’mores by the fire, and waterfront saunas. Towns like Bracebridge, Port Carling, and Gravenhurst offer a mix of luxury and rustic charm.

Pro Tip: Many city dwellers eventually turn their Muskoka getaway into a full-time remote lifestyle—worth keeping in mind!

6. Blue Mountain & Collingwood: Beyond Ski Season

📍2 hours from Toronto
Best known for winter sports, Blue Mountain transforms in summer with ziplining, mountain biking, and spa days at Scandinave Spa. The Village is packed with dining, shopping, and outdoor concerts all season long.

Pro Tip: If you’re hunting for a weekend property, this area offers strong 4-season rental appeal.

✨ Bonus: Hidden Gems Worth the Drive

• Elora Gorge: River tubing and dramatic cliffs

• Wasaga Beach: Longest freshwater beach in the world

• 1000 Islands: Scenic cruises, kayaking & castle tours
